Fall is a beautiful time of year. Leaves change color. The days get shorter and colder. People start to bundle up. A seasonal favorite is homemade apple cider. If you’re looking for something to keep you warm and cozy, this simple recipe is exactly what you need.

Yields: 2 quarts

INGREDIENTS
10 large apples (quartered)
1/2 orange (peeled and quartered)
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon ground allspice
1 tsp cloves
½ cup brown sugar
Garnish: Cinnamon stick, star anise & apple slices

DIRECTIONS
1. Place apples & orange in a large stockpot. Add enough water to cover by at least 2 inches. Stir in sugar and spices. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 2 hours.
2. Remove orange and then mash apples. Simmer uncovered for another hour.
3. Strain through a mesh strainer, pressing solids to squeeze out juice. Discard solids.
4. Pour into cocktail glass and serve. Garnish with cinnamon stick, star anise and apple slice.
